The Washington Capitals completed a back-to-back set of road day games with an early-afternoon contest at Madison Square Garden. The New York Rangers broke on top in the first period; the Caps tied it in the second, leaving it for the last 20 minutes for a settlement. Mats Zuccarello’s goal in the ninth minute of the third period broke the tie to give the Rangers the 2-1 win.
We will have more to say about the game in a bit, but first, Sunday’s plus-minus:
Plus: Philipp Grubauer. When a goalie makes a ton of saves in the first period on the road, it is a cliche that he kept his club in the game.
