Philipp Grubauer to start for Capitals, replacing Braden Holtby in Game 2

Braden Holtby is still expected to start in net for the Washington Capitals on Friday in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the New York Islanders despite missing being “under the weather” for the morning skate, according to coach Barry Trotz.

Holtby, who started 25 consecutive games to finish the regular season — a team record — did not participate in the optional skate on Thursday, either. Trotz would not share what was afflicting Holtby, but said that he “got a little bit of movement” on Friday morning and should be ready for pre-game warm-ups.

“When you’re not feeling well, you know, [there’s no] sense in draining yourself even more,” Trotz said.
