Forward Marcus Johansson files for player-elected arbitration

Electing to enter arbitration to settle his next contract with the Washington Capitals, forward Marcus Johansson filed for mediation Friday, two days before Sunday’s 5 p.m. deadline, according to his agent, Marc Levine.

Levine declined further comment beyond reporting the filing. When reached twice earlier this offseason, Levine said both times that Washington extended its qualifying offer to Johansson, at a minimum of $2.175 million, or the equivalent of his previous salary, but added that the two sides hadn’t held further talks.
