The Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks both will have plenty of excited players on their rosters when it comes to the 2015 Winter Classic on New Year's Day, but Caps right winger Troy Brouwer's day will be a different kind of special.
Per Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington, "for Caps right wing Troy Brouwer it will be a rare opportunity for his father, Don, to see him play in Washington."
Since he suffered a stroke that required brain surgery and left him unconscious for almost a week at the end of the 2009-10 season, Don Brouwer has been able to witness just a few of his son’s NHL games.
He'll have a chance to see his son play in one of the NHL's signature events in front of the team's home crowd in Washington.
“He hasn’t traveled much at all, so he’s really excited,” Brouwer said of his 67-year-old father, who will be accompanied to the game by Brouwer’s mother, Kathy. “So to be able to experience an event like that and to be able to see me and Carmen and our daughter makes it extra special.”
