3 Vanderbilt players won’t return next season for fifth season of eligibility

Three Vanderbilt players will not return for their final season of eligibility this fall.

Linebacker Landon Stokes and tight ends DeAndre Woods and Sean Dowling are leaving the program, Commodores coach Derek Mason told the Tennessean on Monday.

“(They) are graduating and moving forward,” Mason said. “These guys were terrific representatives.”

So far, only Woods has transferred after announcing late last month that he was joining the Old Dominion football team. The report wasn’t clear if Stokes or Dowling would pursue an opportunity to play elsewhere next season.

NCAA rules allow graduate students to transfer to another FBS program without sitting out a season.
