Women's Tennis Tops UCLA on Sharma's Marathon Break, Vanderbilt Wins National Title

Astra Sharma battled through a marathon final set to break UCLA's Channelle Van Nguyen and give Vanderbilt their first-ever national title in women's tennis. The Commodores defeated the Bruins 4-2.

Vanderbilt women's tennis brought home a national title thanks to a marathon effort from a woman called "Roo."

The Commodores topped UCLA in the national finals to clinch their first-ever NCAA Championship 4-2 on Tuesday night. The hero was redshirt freshman Astra Sharma - a redshirt freshman from Australia named after the marsupial icon of her home country. Sharma defeated UCLA's Channelle Van Nguyen in singles play, launching a major comeback after losing the first set and breaking her All-American opponent to seal up the Vanderbilt victory.
