Sharma's heroics clinch women's tennis' first national title

On Wednesday night, however, the redshirt freshman from Perth, Australia, one-upped herself in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory that clinched the Commodores’ 4-2 win over defending champion No. 7 UCLA to bring the National Championship back to West End.

The 'Dores started the night off well as Sydney Campbell and Courtney Colton overpowered UCLA’s Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady 8-3 at first doubles, but the pressure ramped up a bit once VU’s second doubles team of Sharma and Ashleigh Antal dropped their own match 5-8. Vandy’s Frances Altick and Marie Casares came close to losing an early 5-0 lead, but recovered to take care of Chanelle Van Nguyen and Maia Magill 8-5 as the Dores took the doubles point.
