Skinner's sweep seals Utah gymnastics' win over BYU

PROVO — The Utah gymnastics team traveled 35 minutes south to meet instate rival BYU for its first road meet of the season. What would happen in the Marriott Center in front of nearly 4,000 fans, many of them in red cheering for Utah, made it seem like the Red Rocks competed at home.

Freshman MyKayla Skinner won all four events and the all-around (career-best 39.600), helping No. 5 Utah (2-0) annihilate BYU (2-2) 196.900-194.175.

“MyKayla improved her all-around score on the road, which is tremendous. We have a unique situation in that her teammates make her better and she makes them better,” Utah co-head coach Tom Farden said.
