While trailing 8-5 in the final frame, the UTA softball team (31-25) was guided by a three-run home run to secure the 9-8 win against Georgia State University on Thursday at Troy Softball Complex.
The Mavericks took command early while scoring three runs through the first two innings, but the Panthers later cut into their lead, making it a one-run game at 3-2.
UTA attempted to extend its lead in the fourth, but Georgia State limited the damage to one run. The Panthers responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
What started off as a quick inning turned deadly as the Panthers loaded the bases with two outs, later scoring to make it 4-3.
