UTA junior jumper Tobi Fawehinmi finished two spots short of a medal position in the Paralympic T47 classification of the men’s long jump Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.
With his fifth-place finish, Fawehinmi improved upon his 10th-place finish at the 2012 London Games.
Fawehinmi jumped 7.01 meters, a seasonal best for him, and was just .10 meters away from winning a bronze medal.
Fellow U.S. Paralympic team member Roderick Townsend-Roberts finished first with Paralympic record 7.41-meter jump.
Of those who placed in the top five, Fawehinmi was the youngest. He was also the second youngest participant in the field of 15.
