After dropping the first two games in a four-game road trip, the baseball team closed its opening weekend of the 2017 season with two wins.
In the weekend's final game Sunday, the Mavericks avenged Saturday's loss to Stephen F. Austin State University with a 7-4 win of their own over the Lumberjacks.
The Mavericks had their greatest offensive output of the weekend as they scored a run in each of the first three innings, another in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Junior pitcher Reid Petty earned the win, pitching five innings while giving up four hits and one earned run.
