Senior pitcher Kadon Simmons pitched eight shutout innings and the Mavericks defeated the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans 2-0 Thursday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Simmons faced 27 batters, allowing just three hits in his fifth win of the season as UTA improved to 18-16 (8-4 in the Sun Belt Conference).
"Felt really good," Simmons said. "They were really aggressive early in counts. Big focus going into it was make good pitches early on and see if we can get them deep in counts."
Junior pitcher Daniel James secured the final three outs of the game for the Mavericks.
