Down two with 10 seconds to play, the men’s basketball team needed someone to step up and hit the big shot.
Junior guard Erick Neal delivered, hitting a 27-foot 3-pointer with one second remaining to give UTA (20-6, 10-3) a 68-67 win over Georgia State University (16-10, 9-5) Saturday at GSU Sports Arena.
The Panthers appeared to have the game in hand with a 53-38 lead and only 11 minutes to play. However, the Mavericks responded with a 17-2 run to tie the game at 55 with six minutes to go.
Georgia State responded again to build a 65-58 lead with 2:10 remaining, but UTA didn’t let the Panthers slip away.
