The men’s basketball team gave Coastal Carolina a harsh welcome to the Sun Belt Conference.
The Mavericks defeated the Chanticleers 90-69 Saturday at College Park Center and earned their 10th straight victory.
Coastal Carolina started the game with a 3-pointer and an and-one to put the Chanticleers in front 6-2 early. But senior guard Drew Charles followed with three 3-pointers to put the Mavericks in front 14-9. The Mavericks led by as much as eight points in the period, but the Chanticleers fired 19 of their 27 field-goal attempts from beyond the arc and hit eight of them to end the first half knotted at 35.
