The men’s basketball team continued its destruction atop the Sun Belt Conference standings with an 81-71 win over Georgia Southern University (17-11, 10-5) Sunday at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The win was the fifth consecutive one for UTA (21-6, 11-3). Three of the wins were against the top four teams in the conference.
Georgia Southern sophomore guard Ike Smith led the Eagles to a 40-37 halftime lead with 19 points in the period.
The Eagles started the second half with a 5-0 burst to earn their largest lead at 45-37. The Mavericks tied the game at 55 after junior forward Julian Harris hit a pair of free throws.
