A 20-point deficit was too much to overcome for UTA (27-9) as they fell to California State University, Bakersfield (25-9) 80-76 Wednesday at College Park Center.
The loss ended the Mavericks' season and their hopes of playing in the National Invitation Tournament semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York.
After trading baskets for much of the first half, the Roadrunners went on a 10-0 run to take a 34-22 lead. UTA cut the deficit to nine with just over three minutes remaining in the first half, but the Roadrunners finished the half on a 10-5 run to take a 45-29 lead into halftime.
