For the first time in program history, the men’s basketball team defeated a top-25 team in the nation and did so in commanding fashion.
The Mavericks (8-3) raised their win streak to seven with a 65-51 win over the Saint Mary’s Gaels (6-1) Thursday at the McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif.
UTA was previously 0-28 against Associated Press top-25 opponents before facing the undefeated Gaels.
Saint Mary’s took an early 12-9 lead, but UTA countered with a 12-0 run to take a 21-12 lead. The Gaels never closed the gap closer than six points as the Mavericks took a 36-23 lead into the half.
