Success with the Lady Mavericks didn’t come easy for head coach Krista Gerlich.
She led UTA to its best midseason record of her four-year tenure, after weathering through the toughest of storms. Around this time last season, the Lady Mavericks were 7-8. The year before, they went 9-7. During her first season, the team claimed only one win along with 15 losses.
Typical first season struggles affected her inaugural season, but the players’ loyalty through adversity gave her room to gradually develop the program, Gerlich said.
“We really took the approach of coaching what we had and to really work on recruiting during that year for our future,” she said.
