After eight years, Dwight Gentry II returned to the very court where he became a Maverick.

The Terrell, Texas, native walked on to the men’s basketball team in 2007. As a walk-on, Gentry didn’t have a scholarship like the other athletes, so he had to work a little harder than everyone else. Once he made the team, he started to live by the saying “work like a walk-on,” which, without a scholarship, is to work like there is nothing to lose.

Prior to UTA, Gentry played for Richland College. Once a Maverick, he was redshirted for the 2007-08 season, then earned eligibility for the 2008-09 season.
