Column: US men's national soccer team's new coach may hinder future

The U.S. men’s national soccer team took a huge step forward in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia Friday, beating Honduras 6-0. But behind the scenes, recently hired head coach Bruce Arena may be taking the team three steps backward.

Arena replaced former head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in November after dropping World Cup qualifying matches to Mexico and Costa Rica 2-1 and 4-0, respectively. I’m not saying I was a major supporter of Klinsmann, particularly on the tactical side of things, but comments from Arena have set off alarms in my soccer mind.
