USC tailback Justin Davis said some players talked about meeting with athletic director Pat Haden to recommend Clay Helton become the Trojans’ next head coach.
“Maybe some of the leaders (will),” Davis said Saturday after USC disposed of UCLA, 40-21, before 83,602 at the Coliseum. “But the best way is to do it with our play, like today.”
Everything with USC comes wrapped in emotion. Helton embraced and kissed his wife on the field after the game. Star player Su’a Cravens, considered a lock to turn pro, said he might come back if Helton was retained.
“It would mean a lot to me if he came back,” Cravens said.
