USC women's soccer team edges Georgetown to reach NCAA title match

SAN JOSE – Seventh-ranked USC defeated No. 5 Georgetown, 1-0, on a goal by senior Katie Johnson in the 60th minute of their NCAA semifinal on Friday night to advance to the NCAA Women’s College Cup final.

The Trojans (18-4-2), who won the national title in their only title game apperance in 2007, are set to face West Virginia in the final on Sunday at 3 p.m. (ESPNU).

The shutout by Sammy Jo Prudhomme (Aliso Niguel High) marked the Trojans’ 16th of the season and fifth of the postseason.

“What a game,” third-year coach Keidane McAlpine said.
