USC defense gains continuity in second spring with coordinator Clancy Pendergast

LOS ANGELES – Clancy Pendergast is in new, although welcomed, territory at USC.

Pendergast, the Trojans’ defensive coordinator, is returning for a second consecutive season.

After joining the program in 2013, replacing Monte Kiffin on then-Coach Lane Kiffin’s staff, he was not retained by Steve Sarkisian at the end of the year.

He returned last season.

It meant that his previous two spring camps with the Trojans were largely introductions, meeting new players and showing them a new defense.

There is familiarity this time.

“We’re not trying to pull our hair out and make a lot of adjustments,” Pendergast grinned.
