Matt Leinart may not be as hip as he used to be.
Toward the end of his NFL career, an arthritic hip condition flared up. Doctors tell him he may need replacement surgery sooner rather than later. It doesn’t really deter him from playing pick-up basketball games around the South Bay, taking the court for beach volleyball or goofing off with his 8-year-old son Cole.
“I was playing in Matt Barnes’ charity flag football game the other day at UCLA — the first time I competitively threw a football in a long time,” the 32-year-old Leinart admitted over a bowl of oatmeal at a Manhattan Beach breakfast place recently.
