Krieger returns to USWNT for Tournament of Nations

The veteran defender has been included in Jill Ellis' 23-player squad for matches against Australia, Brazil and Japan

U.S. national team coach Jill Ellis named her 23-player squad for the inaugural Tournament of Nations on Thursday, with veteran defender Ali Krieger returning to the mix.

The 32-year-old defender, who started every match as the U.S. won the 2015 Women's World Cup, was left off the squad that defeated Sweden and Norway last month.

U.S. regulars Tobin Heath (back), Ashlyn Harris (quad) and Rose Lavelle (hamstring) were omitted because of injury. The roster features three uncapped players: Boston Breakers goalkeeper Abby Smith, NC Courage defender Taylor Smith and Boston Breakers midfielder Margaret Purce.
