Troy Trojans’ pass defense has room to improve

In this Sept. 10 file photo, Clemson wide receiver Deon Cain (8) catches a touchdown pass in the end zone as Troy cornerback Jalen Rountree (22) defends.

On one hand, the Trojans (along with Cincinnati and SMU) lead the nation in interceptions with 10. Combine that number with the 22 pass breakups, and Troy’s 32 passes defended ranks second in the nation.

Furthermore, Troy’s pass efficiency defense ranks 28th in the country. Troy’s opponents complete only 52 percent of their passes, and 4,000-yard passers Deshaun Watson (Clemson) and Nick Mullens (Southern Miss) hovered around the 50-percent mark in completion percentage.
