Troy notebook: Long TD catch by McCormick gives Trojans needed spark

Troy receiver Tevaris McCormick runs into the end zone to cap an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Silvers on the final play of the first quarter Thursday night in Mobile.

The play helped ignite the Trojans during a thrilling 28-21 win over South Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Thursday night.

It was a career-long TD reception for McCormick, a native of Biloxi, Miss., who is in his first season at Troy after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. It was also the longest touchdown from scrimmage for the Trojans this season. The previous long TD for the Trojans was a 66-yard run by Jabir Frye against Clemson.
