A trail-Blace-r: Troy’s Blace Brown embraces move to defense

TROY — Blace Brown had some warning and put the time to good use.

Troy coaches told him after spring drills that they were seriously contemplating moving him from receiver to defensive back, so Brown enlisted some summer help.

Montres Kitchens, whose four-year career at ended last season, became Brown’s unofficial personal coach.

It apparently was time well spent.

“He helped me train,” Brown said Monday. “He’s an older guy who has been here and done it before.

“I went to him, a defensive back who did pretty well here.”

Brown had two interceptions in last weekend’s 52-6 win over New Mexico State and, Troy coaches said, was a rare highlight on the defense.
