Rookie sensation Connor McDavid collected two goals and three assists in the Oilers’ 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday. It was McDavid’s first career game versus the team that the Richmond Hill, Ontario native grew up idolizing.
Linemate Jordan Eberle collected his first career hat trick while also assisting on both McDavid’s goals. The line of McDavid, Eberle and Benoit Pouliot registered 13 points.
McDavid’s first goal came just 3:29 into the game as he sped down the middle of the ice behind Roman Polak for a partial breakaway, finishinig with a deke on Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier.
