VIDEO: Ryan Telfer scores first Toronto FC II goal to seal win in USL opener

Just two days after signing a USL contract out of York University, Ryan Telfer scored his first Toronto FC II goal to earn the Reds victory over Phoenix Rising in their season opener.

Telfer came advertised as a wide forward but played centrally alongside Ben Spencer in Toronto’s 3-5-2 formation and connected with his striking partner’s low cross inside eight minutes. Jay Chapman had played Spencer in with a nice through ball and the goal stood up to win the match.

First-team players Oyvind Alseth, Brandon Aubrey, Tsubasa Endoh, Marky Delgado, Raheem Edwards and Chapman all started for TFC II, while Phoenix have a couple of ex-Premier League players in Shaun Wright-Phillips and Peter Ramage and are rumoured to be in talks with Didier Drogba.
