Toronto FC sign Sergio Camargo to homegrown deal

Toronto FC have added further young, homegrown depth to their roster by signing Sergio Camargo.

Camargo was a TFC academy player who chose to attend college, spending three years at Coastal Carolina before transferring to Syracuse for his senior year.

The Colombia-born midfielder had an excellent freshman season with Coastal Carolina but saw his production drop in the following two years, citing problems with the coach as his reason for making the switch to New York. You can read a little more about the background to that decision in this excellent profile of Camargo.

Camargo turns 23 this year so Toronto will hope he features in the first team sooner rather than later, but barring a standout performance in preseason he will probably split 2017 between the big club and TFC II.
