Blue Jays tighten grip on top AL Wild Card spot

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays took one step closer to securing an American League postseason berth, and home-field advantage in a potential AL Wild Card Game, by topping the Orioles, 5-1, on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.

Baltimore dropped two games back of Toronto for the top spot in the AL Wild Card standings, but remained in possession of the second spot, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Tigers and Mariners, who were in action in separate games when the final out was recorded in Toronto.

Josh Donaldson started the offence for the Blue Jays with a two-run homer in the first inning off Orioles starter Kevin Gausman, and Ezequiel Carrera joined the long-ball party in support of Aaron Sanchez, who limited the visitors to one run over six innings, striking out 10.
