MINNEAPOLIS - Paul Molitor is certainly in the top 10 players who have worn a Blue Jays uniform in terms of skill and accomplishment, but what set him apart from his contemporaries was an unusual combination of intelligence, wisdom and eloquence. Not to mention a keen sense of humour.
Beyond the 3,000 hits, beyond the Hall of Fame, he had, and still has, an aura and an elegance that commands respect without having to check the credentials.
With the possible exception of Mark DeRosa, Molitor is the only Blue Jay alum who I believe could have made a seamless transition into the manager’s office as soon as he retired as a player.
