Gibbons tossed after Blue Jays lose challenge

TORONTO -- Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was ejected during the fifth inning of Thursday night's game against the Red Sox for arguing a call with home-plate umpire Gerry Davis.

Trailing, 8-4, Toronto had runners on first and second with one out when Devon Travis hit a single to centre. Danny Valencia rounded third and tried to score on the play, but he was called out by Davis, which prompted Gibbons to use his challenge.

Replays later showed that Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan missed the tag as Valencia slid wide of the plate.
