Teaira McCowan leads Mississippi State into Elite Eight; Kelsey Plum has 29 points in final NCAA game

OKLAHOMA CITY - The college career of the top scorer in NCAA women's basketball history, Washington's Kelsey Plum, ended Friday. But the ascension of Mississippi State sophomore Teaira McCowan might have just begun.

McCowan, a 6-foot-7 center, took over the game in the fourth quarter Friday in the Bulldogs' 75-64 victory over Washington in the Sweet 16 of the Oklahoma City Regional at Chesapeake Energy Arena. McCowan finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. She scored 16 consecutive points at the start of the fourth quarter.

Plum wasn't quite her usual self in the first half, scoring 10 points.
