Sounders return home after record rally to face Earthquakes (Jul 23, 2017)

SEATTLE — What will the Seattle Sounders do for an encore?

The Sounders became the first MLS team to rally from a three-goal deficit and win in regulation, defeating D.C. United 4-3 on Wednesday night.

The Sounders (7-7-6) will play host to the San Jose Earthquakes (7-8-5) on Sunday night at CenturyLink Field. Seattle currently sits in the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. San Jose is one point behind.

“I hope the next game will be a little easier because this will not happen again,” Dutch international Kelvin Leerdam jokingly told The Seattle Times after the defender made his Sounders debut off the bench Wednesday.
