Roster Moves, Old and New, Haunt Yankees in Loss to Seattle

SEATTLE — When Ben Gamel, his shoulder-length red hair flying in the breeze, came racing around third and sliding across the plate to give the Seattle Mariners a 6-5, 10-inning victory over the Yankees on Saturday night, it was a fitting end to an evening of exasperation for the Yankees.

With Starlin Castro headed to the disabled list (again), Masahiro Tanaka bit by the gopher ball (again) and Manager Joe Girardi making it clear that Jacoby Ellsbury has become a $21 million-a-year fourth outfielder, the Yankees had clawed their way back from a three-run deficit to tie the score in the eighth.
