Report: Former Sabres, Stars coach Lindy Ruff to join Rangers as assistant

Lindy Ruff is headed to the New York Rangers as the team's new assistant coach, according to a report from the New York Post.

The Post's Larry Brooks tweeted Saturday that Ruff, who was fired as the Dallas Stars head coach this offseason, will replace Jeff Beukeboom in 2017-18.

A longtime head coach of the Buffalo Sabres before joining Dallas in 2013-14, Ruff played for the Rangers from 1988-1991, logging three goals and 12 assists with New York. Replaced by Ken Hitchcock after a 34-37-11 season running the Stars this past year, he owns a career coaching record of 736-554-78-125.
