Packers' Mike McCarthy predicts more appreciation for national anthem 'than ever'

GREEN BAY — San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision and rationale not to stand for the pre-game playing of the national anthem has raised questions about whether other NFL players will follow suit.

Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy believes it may have the opposite effect.

"I would hope they would appreciate it more than they ever have,” McCarthy told Sporting News before Tuesday’s practice outside Lambeau Field. “Any time you bring recognition to something as important as the national anthem, I think it would only heighten the importance that it brings to the National Football League and the way we honor our country.
