Next! Kurt Rambis Is the Knicks’ Coach for Now

Welcome once again to the transitory world of the New York Knicks, where head coaches, at least in this century, do not last very long.

The latest one to go is Derek Fisher, who survived a season and a half, is still owed a ton of money, and will be replaced, at least on an interim basis, by Kurt Rambis. It is all part of an unhappy trend that became pronounced when Jeff Van Gundy, who had real success with the Knicks, quit during the 2001-2 season and was replaced by Don Chaney.

Chaney coached into the 2003-4 season, when he was replaced by Herb Williams for one game and then by Lenny Wilkens for the remainder of the season.
