Ex-players drop appeal of $1 billion concussion settlement with NFL, report says

The retired NFL players who objected to a $1 billion concussion settlement with the league won't take their appeal to the Supreme Court, the New York Post reported.

The decision clears the way for payments, some that could reach $5 million, to thousands of NFL retirees who suffer from medical conditions linked to head trauma from their playing days.

Former Jets All-Pro offensive lineman Alan Faneca, among those who opposed the settlement, said they dropped their appeal "for the greater good of everybody."

“It’s been a long road and I guess there comes a point in time when you see the end of the road,” Faneca told The Post, admitting that the odds of the high court overturning the settlement weren't good.
