Ex-Assistant to Dodgers Pitcher Arrested for Stealing His Boat

MIAMI — A 38-year-old former employee of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bronson Arroyo was arrested on Monday in Tampa, Fla., and accused of stealing and then selling a yacht belonging to the pitcher after telling him it had sunk.

The employee, Anthony Acosta, was charged with first-degree grand theft and forgery, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Officials said Acosta sold the vessel, a 2006 Concept valued at about $167,000, for $22,000 to a boat dealer in Opa-locka, Fla., in July 2013 after claiming that he was doing so on behalf of Arroyo, who officials said knew nothing about the transaction.
