Don't count on NHL players at 2018 Olympics just yet

NHL team owners are wary of the league's participation in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

According to NHL.com, the cost of sending players to South Korea and scheduling issues for the 2017-18 season are the main reasons for reconsidering the league's commitment.

NHL players have been to the last five Winter Games.

Commissioner Gary Bettman said a decision will need to be reached by next month in order to accommodate the logistics and cost — if owners decide it's even worth it to try to expand the league's global exposure.

"I think it's fair to say that there is some strong negative sentiment in the room, but nothing was decided today," Bettman said Thursday at the Board of Governors meetings.
