Utah Gymnastics Coach Greg Marsden to Retire

With more victories than any other college gymnastics coach and a program that averaged 14,950 spectators per home meet last season, Greg Marsden announced his retirement on Tuesday after leading the University of Utah program he started 40 years ago to 10 national championships and a second-place finish at last weekend’s N.C.A.A. championships.

Marsden, 64, was a graduate assistant in 1975 when he was asked if he would coach the new women’s gymnastics team. His teams went on to finish in the top two in the country 19 times and in the top five 29 times. This year, he was the Pacific-12 Conference coach of the year, and Utah was beaten by Florida for the national championship by 5-hundredths of a point.
