Rangers 5, Yankees 2: After Stretch of Hot Play, Yanks Wilt in Texas

ARLINGTON, Tex. — When the Yankees are clubbing pitches all over the ballpark and getting solid pitching from their starters and sterling work from the bullpen, they look impressive — as they have for most of the last month.

But on some nights, like Wednesday, when it was a furnacelike 99 degrees, the rigors of a long season are evident.

With Masahiro Tanaka struggling to keep his breaking pitches off the middle of the plate, the infield defense committing two errors and the Yankees doing little to trouble Colby Lewis, it made for a forgettable night in a 5-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.
