HOUSTON — Sitting in the dugout at Minute Maid Park in Houston this week, the Astros’ general manager, Jeff Luhnow, reflected on the way his job had changed. The Astros are making a playoff push, a bit ahead of schedule, after six losing seasons in a row. The team expects to contend for a long time, but that did not lessen Luhnow’s urgency.
“We can never predict the future,” he said. “All we can do is do the best we can to put the team in a position to succeed, and that’s what we’re trying to do.
