The Sammy Baugh Award’s come to be a frequent honor in Texas Tech football circles.
Patrick Mahomes II this week won the award that goes to college football’s leading passer, becoming the fourth Red Raiders quarterback to do so in the past 15 seasons. Since the award was instituted in 1959, Brigham Young quarterbacks have won it seven times, and Tech and Stanford quarterbacks have won it four times each, which is tied for second most.
Kliff Kingsbury in 2002, B.J. Symons in 2003 and Graham Harrell in 2007 were the other winners from Tech.
The trophy will be presented Feb.
