Gingery, Garcia power Texas Tech to elimination game win over Baylor

OKLAHOMA CITY — When the Texas Tech baseball team has needed a win, Steven Gingery has been the starting pitcher counted on to do just that this season.

On Thursday, the left-handed hurler came in clutch — along with shortstop Orlando Garcia — in an early-morning elimination game matchup against Baylor in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships held at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Although he allowed a single, Gingery struck out three batters in the first inning and pitched six solid innings while Garcia launched a two-run home run in the second to power the third-ranked Red Raiders to a 4-1 victory over the Bears.
