Former Tech standout Josh Tomlin pitching Cleveland into postseason

WASHINGTON — With 18 wins in the past calendar year, former Texas Tech right-hander Josh Tomlin has carved out a spot in the talented Cleveland Indians rotation.

Now to help his team reach the postseason, he’ll have to pick up his game again.

Tomlin, a 31-year-old about 16 months removed from shoulder surgery, is within one win of his career high in the big leagues at 11-6. Tomlin’s fastball tops out at 89 mph and he has allowed 27 home runs in 21 starts, but he has succeeded by throwing strikes with all his five pitches and attacking hitters.
