Big 12 coordinator of officials discusses rule changes

It hasn’t been the doomsday Curtis Shaw expected.

The biggest change in college basketball the Big 12 men’s basketball coordinator of officials has seen in his 30-year career has gone over smoother than expected.

The NCAA men’s basketball rules committee made more than 30 rules changes for this season, most designed to increase the pace of play and reduce the number of stoppages. One directive was to reduce physical play to make for a more free-flowing game.

“We did a great job starting last summer,” Shaw said Monday on the Big 12 teleconference. “We got the word out the first week in June that we’re doing this.
